When applying for a job opportunity be suspicious of email addresses supposedly from reputable companies which may start with real company names, but end with "free" hosted accounts for example "live.com", "yahoo.com" or "hotmail.com".

Be ware of users identifying themselves as Captain XYZ from ABC Yacht Club in the UK

Also be aware of recommended "Travel Agents" as these are invariably involved in the scam in some way.
Poor English is of course by no means a differentiator, but certainly if the alleged Captain or employer is portraying themselves as English-speaking, then broken-English emails are a cause for suspicion.

The following scams have recently been brought to our attention:

An email from Captain Johnson Smith with a job offer to work as steward for Bridlington Yacht Club. See this page for more information: DockWalk.com

A comprehensive list of jobs at Marriott Hotels. Using a contact email address of This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it Not real and a scam without doubt.

Continual postings with vague descriptions from an alleged representative of oilonline.com to an email address This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it This person is unknown to the owners of oilonline.com and doesn't respond when contacted.

Postings relating to PRINCESS MARIANA with references to a "Travel Consultant" or "Travel Agent" who can help arrange paperwork. A vacuous scam which appears to be replicated more than once. Email addresses are all live.com. The scam usually attempts to get a "processing fee" for paperwork.

Captain Charles White allegedly from the USA with poor English and offering to send a cheque for $500 to the crew. Recommended "Art of World" travel agent to assist with Visas with email address This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it

Royal Yacht Club, Diana Cruise Line, Thames Yacht Club and various other UK real or fictitious yacht clubs offering jobs. Invariably these are either genuine clubs with links to their websites, but fictitious email addresses, or links to similar sites. If replying to a posting like this, do an internet search for the yacht club, and make contact through their official website. Be VERY wary when replying to these adverts.

Hurlingham Yacht Club do not use this site to advertise for crew positions. Assume any posting allegedly from them is a scam.

Mitch Bridge is a scam.

Carnival Cruise Lines and Swan Hellenic do not use CrewFile to advertise for vacancies. Please refer directly to their websites for job vacancies. http://www.swanhellenic.com/ and http://www.carnival.com/
